Beach Bag Essentials

Image
Hi there! Now that it's official mermaid time (aka summer) I would like to share what I keep in my beach bag!  I've already been on a short holiday over the weekend and since I'm a pale vampire I gotta keep my sunshine survival bag close! Now this year's summer weather is something completely new in the UK and according to your tweets y'all are melting. I - for a change - am not really sensitive to heat. It's pretty much never too hot for me but nevertheless I'm quite prone to sunburns because of said vampire paleness. Furthermore I also used to suffer from acne, so my face is covered in scars which doesn't make buying sunscreen easy. An average brand will do for my body (currently using the OMBIA SUN SPF 30 one) but I need to sacrifice a little fortune every summer for my face. I actually bought this year's sunscreen at the pharmacy and I'm actually head over heels in love with it ! ( La Roche Posay SPF 30 ) First of all it does what it ...

5 things I was taught at Drama Classes

Image
Hi there mermaids! I'm back with a new post! Some of you might know that I've been studying Drama at University for three years now and I've had an amazing time! Unfortunately this whirlwind journey is coming to an end very soon since I'll be graduating this summer!  One thing that comes with choosing to study Drama are the very annoying opinions of not-so-loved distant relatives and "friends" that predict your apparently horrible future as a homeless person because "how can you be so stupid to study something if you won't get a job afterwards anyway?" Although I've always been one who believes in the things she loves and is ready to defend her dreams no matter what, it still leaves you with an uncomfortable feeling to know you're not supported all the way.  Luckily, my close family always has my back and with their help I was able to study what I love so dearly.  Whenever people ask me what I've actually learnt or wha...

Summer Scents 2017

Image
Hi mermaids! 🐟 If there's one thing that I can't miss in the morning it's tea  and a scent  to go with my mood. I feel like I've subconsciously categorised my fragrances in spring/summer/autumn/winter and summer is always the time where I get out my fresh scents that remind me of sunshine and the beach. I've stocked up this year's summer scents and I'm going to share them with you down below! Betty Barclay - Tender Blossom  I would be lying if I said I bought this simply because of the scent. Nope, I looove the packaging! Although I didn't incorporate the box it came in in the picture since it would've destroyed the colour scheme of my flat lay (#bloggerproblems)but it honestly is sooo lovely! The scent itself doesn't disappoint as well. Contrary to the ck One fragrance, this one is much more on the feminine side and it reminds me of french ladies sipping coffee in a café somewhere in Nice having their life totally sorted out. I...

How I conceal my acne scars...

Image
Hello Mermaids!🐟 Since it's getting warmer, my skin is recovering from the tolls winter ❄ has taken and it's breaking out less recently. Overall I'm quite happy with my skin at the moment, in most areas of my face it is acne-free. 👧 However, I do have quite a few acne scars on both of my cheeks and some on my skin due to hormonal break outs. They are fading, but dark spots are still visible. I don't consider myself a beauty blogger, although 'beauty' is one of the topics I talk about on my blog, simply because I like it but I'm not a professional whatsoever. In February I decided to skip foundation which is probably why my skin has gotten so much better. For my everyday make-up I do a VERY minimalistic routine (because I ain't getting up earlier just to contour 🛏) and I found that it actually looks better than using foundation, concealer and whatnot. Products I start off by using my favourite moisturiser L'oreal Paris Skin Perfec...

White + Milk Chocolate Muffins

Image
Hello mermaids, 🐟 Long time no see, huh? It's been a while since I blogged 🖥 but now here I am-back with a new post! I recently discovered this suuuper complicated "I need to spend 2 years in the kitchen to make this cake 🎂 taste nice and it might still look crappy" type of recipe on Pinterest and it looked SOOO tasty BUT to spare myself the meltdown and still get my daily chocolate intake I need in order to survive I decided to do a version that's a bit easier to accomplish, (and by "a bit" I mean A LOT) doesn't contain any exotic ingredients (in fact you can get 'em all at your street's corner shop-IMAGINE THAT!) and it won't take you as long as driving to a bakery. (Except you live super close to one, if that's the case pleeease keep quiet and embrace my attempted funniness) Soooo, here's what you're gonna need... 2 eggs🥚 30 g cocoa powder 250 g flour 170 ml milk 🥛 2 tsp baking powder 120 g su...

Austrian Drugstore Haul!

Image
Hi mermaids! First things first- I'm engaged! My boyfriend proposed to me on our holiday in Australia on New Year's eve! The last week before Uni started, we stopped by in Austria to tell my family about our engagement and of course: To do some shopping! I don't necessarily miss any Austrian skincare here in London, you Brits have a much larger span of brands and stores where brands that I was used to order online since they weren't very easily accessible, are in the ordinary sortiment. Nevertheless I picked up some bits and bobs and thought I'd share them with you!  The first thing I got was the Tetesept "Eine Portion Liebe" bath salts with campaign and currant scent. "Eine Portion Liebe" translates to "A portion of Love" which immediately made me swoon over my fianceé (I still get butterflies in my tummy when I say it out loud). We did a couple's pamper night and both fell in love all over again. (oh, how sappy that sou...

My Natural Skincare Pamper Night Routine!

Image
Our skin is really having a tough time in winter. The lack of humidity makes our skin dry out, the constant change in temperature (cold outside, warm inside) makes it hard for the skin's lipid layer (a very thin layer of fat located on the epidermis that protects our skin from losing moisture) to obtain its complete function. Due to the weakened function of the lipid layer it's easier for germs to settle. In a nutshell- the change of climate in winter makes our skin come under stress. Furthermore, we notice blackheads, pimples and their evil brothers and sisters all the more because summer is extremely beneficial for our skin, mainly because of the anti-inflammatory impact of the ultraviolet rays of the sunlight. In winter there's less sun, therefore less ultraviolet rays. That makes our skin break out even worse. What can we do to help our skin? I personally avoid harsh skincare products altogether. I love natural skincare, because its goal and purpose is to be  y...

Purple Obsession!

Image
It's finally November, which means I already exchanged the pumpkins on my porch for golden baubles, glitter ornaments and silver candles. Not only has the decoration in the Mermaid household changed, but also the Mermaid's wardrobe and makeup! It's usually this time of the year when I get bored of all those autumn colours (don't get me wrong, I absolutely dig 'em in September & October) and all my orange, maroon and auburn clothes get packed away for the next year. Apparently it's not socially acceptable to get out my Christmas Jumpers plus my neighbours already secretly hate me for going aaaall out with the Christmas decor, so I usually settle for grey, black and white simple clothes. To make everything a bit more wha wha woom I love doing purple make up! I think it really suits my blond hair and fair complexion and for someone who doesn't really experiment with make up, purple is already a huge step out of my comfort zone. Today I'd love to shar...

Easy Apple & Cinnamon Muffins!

Image
Ingredients: 250g flour 1tsp baking powder a pinch of salt 115g butter 200g sugar 2 eggs 2 small apples cinnamon Directions: Pre-heat your oven to 180°C. Prepare your muffin tins. Mix eggs, butter, sugar until smooth. Slowly add flour, salt and baking powder, then mix thoroughly again. Cut your apples into small slices and combine them with the dough. (I'd recommend to use a spoon for this as the apples get stuck in the whisk otherwise!) Fill the dough into the muffin tins and bake for about 20-40 minutes (The recipe I used recommended 20 minutes but my muffins definitely took longer to bake) Sprinkle Cinnamon on top, then let them cool down for about 20 minutes.               Hope you liked this quick and easy recipe! Apple Muffins are one of my favourite things to make when it comes to baking in Autumn, but today I tried out a new recipe to spice things up! I personally like this new one better since the muffins turn out waaaay more mois...

What I wore on my first day of University!

Image
Hi there fellow mermaids! Yaaay I'm back! and so is University/School/whatever ! I'm so excited to finally blog again, I've got tons of ideas, new motivation and *drum roll* if everything goes all right a new template for The Part-Time Mermaid soon! There have been a few technical issues on here lately, which is partly mine, partly Bloggers and partly my template's fault. Hopefully now everything's back to normal and you can enjoy a lovely bug-free blog!  You might wonder why I haven't blogged in such a long time. Long story short- I was feeling terribly mental illness- wise. I really don't want to get into it right now because it's all really emoshhh but don't worry I'll make a seperate post on that. For you nosy people out there and also to kind of apologise to y'all. I might not have an audience as big as Zoella's or Louise Pentlands, but it still felt to me like I let my readers down. Anywayyys let's get back to the fun...

Marshmallow Chocolate Cookies!

Image
Hello there fellow mermaids! I'm back to blogging! Yay! As I've shared with you previously, I had to stop blogging because I was feeling horrible mentally. I used to suffer from depression and anxiety, but haven't had an attack in a year, but this summer I couldn't handle life at all for some reason. I had to cut back on stress or otherwise everything would've gone downhill. Luckily I'm feeling a lot better now, mainly due to the amazing support from my boyfriend. Blogging is obviously something I really enjoy and therefore I was gutted to not provide you with quality content. But now I'm back, more motivated than ever! I thought sharing one of my favourite recipes would be a good blogging come back, so there you go! What you'll need... 100g butter 100g caster sugar 175g flour 1 tsp. baking powder 2EL milk (almond or cow) 50-100g chocolate (depending on how dark and chocolatey you want them to be) Marshmallows Melt the butter, then mix...

Studying Tips | Collab with Steph's World!

Image
Hi there fellow mermaids! The summer is getting to an end (at least here in the UK) which means holidays are almost over too or already are- depending where you live. I personally start University at 12th September- my senior year!! (Let me know in the comments below which grade you're in and when you start/started school!) Alright, now let's get to the fun part. For this post I collaborated with Steph from Steph's World and we decided to do a post on Studying Tips (as you might have already guessed by the title haha) but this one's a little different from the ordinary ones. Keep on reading to get some tips from someone who is still in University and someone who has already graduated! How to take notes the right way and why you should make them look pretty It doesn't matter if you're still in High School or already in University- taking notes is always important, however if you don't do it properly you'll end up not wanting to study with...

Lips are movin: My lipstick collection!

Image
Hi there fellow mermaids! My all time favourite make-up products are probably lipsticks. I just love how you can get away with wearing every colour there possibly is out there and I do own quite a few. Today I wanted to share my 7 favourite ones with you, so let's get into it! Catrice Love's Di - Vine 0104  I've had this one for quite a long time and it still finds its way onto my lips very frequently. When I first used it I was quite disappointed since it turned out pink but the lipstick itself look more like a deep red to me, but now I know what to expect and I love it! It's actually really moisturising and you barely feel it on your lips. claire's Tropical Coral  The thing with claire's products is... you never really know what you get in terms of quality. Sometimes you find things that are amazing for its price, sometimes it fits better into my sisters carnival face painting set. Luckily this item is an absolute dream. I don't wear it ...
